[Mix] Thrumcast 001 – Brendon Moeller

Thrumcast is a monthly podcast series brought to you by the good people behind Thrum Room, a monthly event in Cape Town that explores the deeper, dubbier reaches of techno and house. To kick off the series we have enlisted the services of a veritable giant of contemporary techno, none other than SA-born, New York-based Brendon Moeller aka Echologist. An inspiration to us since his early releases on Mule, Astralwerks & Six Degrees Record, residency at Cielo, a Resident Advisor podcast that became an instant classic and founding Steadfast Records, all of which has led to regular tours around the world including bookings at the mythical Berghain.

The mix Brendon delivered is an exploration of his wide-ranging tastes and influences, and is nothing short of sublime. We are proud to present Thrumcast 001 mixed by Brendon Moeller.

A growing interest in acid house, Mancunian hip-hop and early Aphex Twin and Orb kindled the electronic music fire, but he found the price for the gear prohibitive on his teacher’s salary in South Africa. Dissatisfied with the job anyway, he moved from Johannesburg to New York in 1994 to follow his ambition. It was only after this that the process of figuring out what he needed and learning about it really began.
